Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
- Create three wells in the dry ingredients. Into one well, pour the vanilla extract; into the second, add the vinegar; and into the third, drizzle the vegetable oil. Pour in the water last and stir everything together until just combined – be careful not to overmix.
Baking
- Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
Frosting
- For the frosting, combine the powdered sugar, butter, milk, and cocoa powder in a clean bowl. Mix until smooth, adjusting the consistency with more milk as necessary.
